Temperature Regulation

Definition: achieving and / or maintaining body temperature within normal limits


Interventions :
  • Monitor the temperature every 2 days.
  • Monitor the temperature of the newborn until stable.
  • Always provide a tool to monitor the core temperature.
  • Monitor blood pressure, pulse and respiration.
  • Monitor skin color and temperature.
  • Monitor and report signs and symptoms of hypothermia and hyperthermia.
  • Monitor nutrition and adequate fluid.
  • Napkin newborn babies immediately after birth to prevent heat loss.
  • Keep the warmth of the newborn's body temperature.
  • Wear stockinette cap to prevent heat loss newborns.
  • Teach patients how to prevent excess and heat stroke.
  • Place the newborn in the isolation room or under heating if necessary.
  • Discuss the importance of thermoregulation and the possible negative effects of excessive cold.
  • Teach patients, especially elderly patients, how to prevent hypotermia if exposed to cold air.
  • Teach indication of fatigue and appropriate emergency management.

  • Adjust the temperature of the environment according to the needs of the patient.
  • Give the right medicine to prevent or control shivering.
  • Set anti-pyretic medication.
  • Use mattress cold and warm water bath to adjust the temperature change.
