Overhydration can cause a serious negative impact on health, even some cases can lead to death. Disturbance of consciousness caused by brain swelling due to overhydration due to excessive amounts of water go up into the brain cells and if not handled quickly and appropriately can lead to death.

Drinking plenty of water is highly recommended for health. However, if consumed excessively, it can be very dangerous and cause adverse effects to the body can even cause death.

Overhydration is a condition when a person's body to excess fluid. The condition occurs when the contents of a person to drink excessively in a short time so that excess fluid resulting concentration of sodium in the blood plasma becomes very low. This condition can be caused by several things, such as people with certain diseases, namely those whose kidneys can not remove fluid normally, people with heart disease, renal, hepatic and mental illness.


Symptoms of overhydration can be shown to us through the things below:
  • Stomach feels nauseous, full and bloated. This condition is caused by too much water is in the body.
  • Headache and swelling in the legs. If this condition is not treated quickly will cause a person unconscious. In fact, it can lead to coma and death.
  • To overcome mild overhydration, you should limit your intake of drink and try to consume salty snacks.

Overhydration also more prone to happen in children, the elderly, consumers of certain drugs such as painkillers because it can retain fluid in the body. However, the main cause of overhydration is excessive drinking within a few hours. For example, within 10-15 minutes of 1 liter of water or other beverages, also can be caused by a disturbance of body fluids expenditure. Symptoms of overhydration is divided into three, namely:

Women are more prone to overhydration than men because women have smaller body size so that the expenditure of heat and body fluids through evaporation and through sweat less, resulting in more fluid retained in the body. In addition, factors such as hormonal changes during menstruation, the female body has a tendency to retain water.

Mild overhydration
Symptoms of overhydration divided into mild overhydration, ie a person feels nausea and cramps.

Moderate overhydration
If a person already have a headache, stomach feels full or fullness, legs and arms and fingers swollen.

Severe overhydration
While severe overhydration can be seen if one had convulsions, disorientation, loss of consciousness, coma, and if not handled quickly and properly will die.
